Cu ocazia evenimentului Noaptea Muzeelor 2023, Muzeul Universității din București a pregătit expoziția fizică O călătorie prin istoria învățământului de Științe de la Universitatea din București (1863-1948), constituită din zece panouri, completată de o expoziție digitală, și de mai multe exponate în vitrine și un stand unde se putea descoperi o „lume” minusculă printr-un microscop.
În această pagină vă prezentăm Panoul 1: Introductiv.
Selectiv, prezentăm câteva din textele și imaginile acestor panouri, dar reamintim că o parte dintre ele pot fi descoperite (împreună cu documente noi și inedite) și în această expoziție digitală.

Ideile pe care le propune expoziția sunt următoarele:
◊ Facultatea de Științe, una dintre cele trei facultăți care au constituit nucleul Universității din București, a fost o instituție importantă pentru dezvoltarea societății, dincolo de activitatea educativă.
◊ Contribuția Facultății de Științe la prestigiul Universității din București și la progresul științei românești a reprezentat un important vector de modernizare.
◊ Progresul științei în România și excelența universitară au fost datorate unui cumul de factori; trebuie subliniată și importanța naționalității diverse a profesorilor prezentați în cadrul expoziției.
◊ Învățământul românesc de științe a fost capabil să creeze savanți de renume internațional.
◊ Dezvoltarea științelor a fost considerată multă vreme doar un apanaj masculin, însă contribuțiile feminine au fost considerabile și trebuie să fie mult mai bine puse în valoare.
◊ În secolul al XIX-lea, Facultatea de Științe a Universității din București a avut un rol important în consolidarea statului național modern.
◊ Progresul științelor în România reflectat prin contribuțiile comunității academice a Facultății de Științe bucureștene este parte componentă a evoluțiilor internaționale din știință și societate în general.
◊ Patrimoniul universitar constituit în jurul Facultății de Științe a Universității din București prezintă nu doar o valoare națională și internațională, ci și o importanță pentru istoria urbană bucureșteană.
◊ Istoria universitară poate fi îmbunătățită prin utilizarea unei game variate de surse accesibile oricărei persoane interesate; bibliotecile, arhivele și muzeele din România au nevoie de atenția publicului deoarece sunt relevante pentru societate și contribuie la activitatea de cunoaștere și educare.
◊ Cele mai bune rezultate se pot obține prin colaborarea în echipe interdisciplinare, cu implicarea atât a profesorilor, cercetătorilor, cât și a studenților.

Panel 1: A Journey Through the History of Science Education at the University of Bucharest (1863-1948)
Through the exhibition A Journey Through the History of Science Education at the University of Bucharest (1863-1948) the Museum of the University of Bucharest offers visitors a tour of the fascinating world of sciences: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geology, including geography.
We will be able to discover who were the main Romanian personalities who illustrated these sciences at a level of excellence and what was the contribution of the University of Bucharest to the Romanian and universal scientific progress, through the Faculty of Sciences. Initially called the Higher School of Sciences and created in 1863, this faculty was one of the three that were part of the University of Bucharest, since its foundation, in 1864. The beginnings of the Romanian School of Sciences coincide with the beginnings of the modern Romanian State, the period in which efforts were made for consolidation and modernization, but also significant results were obtained in the various fields of knowledge. In these formative years of the second half of the 19th century, Romania needed competent people to transform the promises of the industrialization process into a reality as palpable as possible in the entire society. We will follow the evolution of Science education at the University of Bucharest until 1948, when the Faculty of Sciences ceased its activity.
The exhibition presents important and unique details for Romanian science and education: reconstructions of the Bucharest academic community (teaching staff and auxiliary teaching staff, non-teaching staff, students and graduates) and of the complex structure around which the Faculty of Sciences developed. We will illustrate the study subjects, the timetable of students from different specializations, the surprising real estate heritage, as well as the contributions of female personalities to Romanian science and education. The unique sources brought to attention on this occasion will contribute in the following years to the improvement of our knowledge about the remarkable personalities of Romanian science, about student life and other aspects that make up higher education of science (and not just Bucharest). The physical exhibition is completed by a rich documentary material that can be accessed digitally.
In the documentation of this exhibition were used several works of teachers from the period we had in attention, various periodicals and other works, including documents written from several archival funds, many unique, and photos or other types of objects. Some information can be accessed by scanning QR codes with free application or directly from the phone or tablet camera or by touching the space indicated with the NFC symbol with the phone.
The ideas proposed by the exhibition are the following:
* Faculty of Sciences, one of the three faculties that formed the core of the University of Bucharest, was an important institution for the development of society, beyond the educational activity.
* The contribution of the Faculty of Sciences to the prestige of the University of Bucharest and to the progress of Romanian science was an important vector of modernization.
* The progress of science in Romania and the university excellence were due to a combination of factors; the importance of the diverse nationality of the teachers presented in the exhibition must be emphasized.
* Romanian science education has been able to create internationally renowned scientists.
* The development of sciences has long been considered only a masculine prerogative, but female contributions have been considerable and need to be much better valued.
* In the 19th century, the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Bucharest had an important role in consolidating the modern national state
* The progress of sciences in Romania reflected by the contributions of the academic community of the Faculty of Bucharest Sciences is a component part of international developments in science and society in general.
* The university heritage established around the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Bucharest presents not only a national and international value, but also an importance for the urban history of Bucharest.
* University history can be improved by using a wide range of sources accessible to any interested person, libraries, archives and museums in Romania need the public’s attention because they are relevant to society and contribute to the work of knowledge and education.
* The best results can be obtained by collaborating in interdisciplinary teams, with the involvement of both teachers, researchers and students.
