Cu ocazia evenimentului Noaptea Muzeelor 2023, Muzeul Universității din București a pregătit expoziția fizică O călătorie prin istoria învățământului de Științe de la Universitatea din București (1863-1948), constituită din zece panouri, completată de o expoziție digitală, și de mai multe exponate în vitrine și un stand unde se putea descoperi o „lume” minusculă printr-un microscop.
În această pagină vă prezentăm Panoul 5: Studenti și absolvenți.
Selectiv, prezentăm câteva din textele și imaginile acestor panouri, dar reamintim că o parte dintre ele pot fi descoperite (împreună cu documente noi și inedite) și în această expoziție digitală.

„[…]. Am urmat și cursul de botanică al profesorului D. Brandia [V.M.: Dimitrie Brândză] cu reputație de mare botanist al României, curs pozitiv și mai practic, dar care era urmat de mai puțini studenți. Cursul său se ținea la etajul III din aripa dreaptă a vechii clădiri universitare. Nu avea încă grădină botanică, pe care însă o reclama mereu și care s-a realizat mai târziu la Cotroceni. Dar până atunci, pentru demonstrația cursului său oral, profesorul Brandia nu avea decât micile grădinițe din fața Universității, pe locurile unde se găsesc azi statuile lui Heliade Rădulescu, Gh. Lazăr, Haret și Mihai Viteazul.
[…]. am urmat cursurile și experiențele profesorului Vitzu, de fiziologie, recent venit de la Paris cu diploma de doctor în această știință. Era primul român în țară cu acest înalt grad științific în științele naturale și făcuse o deosebită impresie în lumea noastră culturală precum și în cea politică.
[…]. Am mai frecventat și cursurile lui Titu Maiorescu la Universitate și Ateneul Român, ale lui Take Ionescu, «Drepturile femeii», cu idei progresiste, ale lui Gh. Panu, cu bogat fond științific”.

Studenții s-au organizat în diverse asociații și au avut mai multe inițiative. Una dintre acestea era editarea unei reviste a lor, precum „Buletinul Societății Studenților în Științe Naturale din București”.

Memories from my student days – Dragomir Hurmuzescu
„[…]. I also attended the botany course of professor D. Brandia [Dimitrie Brândză], who has a reputation as a great Romanian botanist, a positive and more practical course, but which was followed by fewer students. His course was held on the third floor of the right wing of the old university building. He still didn’t have a botanical garden, which he always advertised and which was built later in Cotroceni. But until then, for the demonstration of his oral course, Professor Brandia only had the small gardens in front of the University, on the places where the statues of Heliade Rădulescu, Gh. Lazăr, Haret and Michael the Brave are found today.
[…] I followed the courses and experiences of professor Vitzu, of physiology, who recently came from Paris with a doctor’s degree in this science. The students organized themselves in various associations and had several initiatives. One of these was the editing of their magazine, such as the „Bulletin of the Society of Natural Sciences Students in Bucharest”.
